Submitting a link or text to Reddit

The Reddit
lets you do one of two things:

  • Submit a link to a Web site.
    The tabs look like this:
    Tabs for

    This lets you give:

    • A title, (e.g. Cool New Search Engine)
    • A link URL (e.g. http://duckduckgo.com/)

...and that's all. You don't get a text box under your link. If you want to add additional text, you have to later write a comment to your post, like everybody else.

  • Submit a text post (also known as a "self post").
    The tabs look like this:
    Tabs for

    This lets you give:

    • A title, (e.g. Cool New Search Engine)
    • A bunch of text, where you can write about your topic. This text will appear in a box underneath your title. The title will not link to anything but the comments page, so if you want to link to other pages, you'll have to do so in this text. Example:
I've discovered a rad new search engine that returns less clutter and advertising than *Google*. They even have a cool new way to display search results. See for yourself, the URL is [http://duckduckgo.com](http://duckduckgo.com/).

Note: A self post does not give you link karma!

Switching between the "link" and "text" panes doesn't do what you hope it does. Depending on which pane you're in when you hit the Submit button button, you get either a link post (with no text) or a text post (with no link off the title, and no link karma).
